Shop Road on Russell Sage Wildlife Management Area (WMA) has been closed due to flooding, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced. This closure will extend from Highway 15 to the camping area.
Both Pintail Ally and the bean field areas will be inaccessible to vehicle traffic with the closure in effect.
Increasing water levels in Bayou Lafourche Canal have created backwater flooding on the road. This closure is deemed necessary to ensure safety and prevent road damage. Once the water recedes, LDWF will inspect, repair and reopen the road when deemed safe for travel.
Russell Sage WMA consists of 38,213 acres in Ouachita Parish and is located about seven miles east of Monroe and 10 miles west of Rayville. For more information, go to http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/wma/2777 .
