With widespread flooding caused by elevated rivers in some parts of the state, deer are being forced from their normal habitat and could be crossing roads and highways more frequently as they seek higher ground. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) are warning motorists to be alert for deer crossing roads and highways in the affected areas.
 
Deer, in some cases, will also attempt to return to their normal home ranges in advance of the water receding.
