The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will reopen the south end of Price Lake Road on Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in Grand Chenier on Friday (May 20) at official sunrise.
High water from heavy rain forced the closure of the road. Repairs have been made but visitors to the refuge are cautioned to stay away from high water near the road.
The north end of Price Lake Road remains open.
Other areas available for public access include the Joseph Harbor Canal and East End Locks Road, which are both located about three miles east of the refuge headquarters building.
Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge, which consists of 71,500 acres, is located in eastern Cameron and western Vermilion parishes. It borders the Gulf of Mexico for 26.5 miles and extends inland toward the Grand Chenier ridge, a stranded beach ridge, six miles from the Gulf.
