The Louisiana Fur Advisory Council and the Louisiana Trappers and Alligator Hunter Association will host a trapping workshop on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Palmetto Island State Park near Abbeville.

The workshop is free but registration is required in advance and is limited. Youth participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The $2 per person state park entry fee is waived for workshop participants.

Classes begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Participants will see demonstrations on trap models and uses, trap preparation and trap modification. Professional instructors from the Louisiana Trappers and Alligator Hunter Association will be teaching workshop participants about tactics and techniques with on-site applications for mink, otter, bobcat, raccoon and beaver. Participants can ask questions and take notes but no video cameras are allowed.

In Abbeville, turn left onto LA 14/W. Summers Dr., then right onto LA 82. State Street. Follow LA 82 south out of Abbeville, turning left onto LA 690 then right onto Pleasant Dr.
