Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents arrested a Coushatta man for alleged illegal drug possession in Red River Parish on Aug. 31.

Agents arrested William Thomas, 46, of Coushatta, for possession of marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and fishing without a basic fishing license. He was booked into the Red River Parish Correctional Center.

Agents were on patrol on the Grand Bayou Reservoir when they found Thomas fishing from the bank. Agents made contact with Thomas and smelled a strong odor of marijuana.

After further investigation, agents found Thomas in possession of marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Thomas was also fishing without possessing a fishing license.

Possession of methamphetamines carries up to a $5,000 fine and two years in jail. Possession of drug paraphernalia brings up to a $300 fine and 15 days in jail. Possession of marijuana carries up to a $100 fine. Fishing without a basic fishing license brings up to a $50 fine.

Agents participating in the case are Senior Agent Austin Ashley, Senior Agent Tracen Francis and Lt. Ryan Brasher.
