Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a subject for alleged fishing violations on two separate occasions only a week apart in Plaquemines Parish.
Agents cited Dominic Messina, 23, of Metairie, for two counts of taking commercial fish without a commercial gear license and one count of violating logbook requirements.
On March 26, an LDWF agent was on patrol in Bay Lanoux when they observed Messina actively harvesting oysters. The agent performed an inspection and found Messina had not filled out any of the required Harvester Log Sheet and did not possess any gear licenses.
Agents seized 29 sacks of oysters and returned them to the water.
On April 1, agents were on patrol near Wilkinson Bay when they again observed Messina actively harvesting oysters. Agents again performed an inspection and found Messina still did not possess any of the required gear licenses.
Agents seized 316 sacks of oysters and returned them to the water.
Taking commercial fish without a commercial gear license carries a $250 to $500 fine and 90 days in jail.
Violation of logbook requirements brings up to a $25 fine and forfeiture of anything seized to the department.
Agents participating in these cases are Corporal Shea Schexnaydre, Senior Agent Heather Fitzgerald and Senior Agent Joshua Schilling.
