Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited two subjects for alleged fishing violations on Dec. 13 in Terrebonne Parish.
Agents cited Wilmer Melendezavila, 44, and Nelson Survellon, 28, both of Kenner, for violating Wildlife Management Area (WMA) regulations, using a WMA without WMA access permits, fishing without basic fishing and saltwater fishing licenses, possessing undersized black drum, and possessing over the limit of black drum.
Agents were on patrol around on Dec. 13 on the Pointe-aux-Chenes WMA when they made contact with Melendezavila and Survellon around 10 p.m. Nighttime activity on the Pointe-aux-Chenes WMA is prohibited.
Agents found that Melendezavila possessed 11 black drum, of which five were undersized, and three croaker. Agents also found that Survellon possessed seven black drum, of which three were undersized. The legal limit for black drum is five per day per person between 16 and 27 inches. Anglers are allowed to keep one black drum over the 27 maximum length per person.
During the check, agents also learned that neither Melendezavila nor Survellon possessed WMA access permits, basic fishing licenses and saltwater fishing licenses.
Agents seized 18 black drum and three croaker and donated them to a local charity.
Violating Wildlife Management Area (WMA) regulations, using a WMA without WMA access permits, and fishing without basic fishing and saltwater fishing licenses, possessing undersized black drum and possessing over the limit of black drum brings up to a $350 fine for each offense.
The subjects will also face civil restitution totaling $100 for the replacement value of the illegally taken fish.
Agents participating in this case are Sgt. Richard Bean and Agent Courtney Hart.
