Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents, with the assistance of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, cited two subjects for alleged wildlife violations on Oct. 26.

Agents cited Christian Harvey, 22, of Madisonville, and Alex Lejeune, 21, of Opelousas, for intentional concealment of wildlife. Agents also cited Harvey for taking a spotted fawn.

Agents received information from a St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy about a freshly harvested spotted fawn in the bed of a pickup truck during a traffic stop. The deputy provided a description of the vehicle and identity of Harvey. Agents responded to the area and located the vehicle at a nearby hunting camp.

During the time between the traffic stop and the agents’ arrival, agents learned that Harvey with the assistance of Lejeune cleaned the spotted fawn and buried the hide in an attempt to conceal evidence.

Agents made contact with the subjects and found them in possession of a freshly cleaned deer. During the investigation, agents found where the hide of the deer was buried and recovered a freshly removed hide of a spotted fawn.

Agents seized the deer and donated it to a local charity.

Taking or possessing a spotted fawn carries a $500 to $750 fine and up to 30 days in jail. Intentional concealment of wildlife carries a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail.

Harvey may also face civil restitution totaling $400 for the replacement value of the deer.

Agents participating in this case are Agent Michael Gaspard, Corporal Nelson Kennerson and Corporal Luke Langley.
