Search and rescue crews recovered the body of a missing boater in Lake Pontchartrain in Tangipahoa Parish on Sept. 3.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents recovered the body of Phillippe Lannelongue, 58, around 1:30 p.m. His body was found near Manchac and turned over to the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office who then transferred him to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.

LDWF enforcement agents responded to a single vessel incident in Lake Pontchartrain that occurred around 3 a.m. on Aug 31. According to a female passenger on the vessel at the time of the incident, she and Lannelongue were on a sailboat when they struck a bridge in Lake Pontchartrain causing Lannelongue to be ejected into the water. The female passenger immediately called 911 for help and the U.S. Coast Guard was able to bring her to safety.

The LDWF Enforcement Division will be the lead investigative agency for this boating incident.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard also participated in the search.
