Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents are investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred this morning, July 3, in Jefferson Parish.

The body of Mark A. Barrios, 69, of Westwego, was recovered by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office around 10:30 a.m. on July 3 from Marcello Canal. His body was turned over to the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.

LDWF will be the lead investigative agency for this fatal boating incident. At this time, it is believed that Barrios struck an object in the water with his 16-foot aluminum vessel. He was not wearing a personal flotation device when his body was recovered.
