Geocaching Pilot Program Launched at Three LDWF Public Lands

Geocaching is now a part of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) public lands experience. Through a pilot initiative developed by LDWF’s Geaux Play Outdoors program, geocaching enthusiasts can now take part in the treasure hunt game at Bogue Chitto Wildlife Management Area (WMA), White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area (WCA) and Dewey W. Wills WMA.

The geocaching season runs from now until Aug. 16 at those three LDWF properties.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure-hunting game where participants use GPS-enabled devices, such as smartphones, to locate hidden containers, called "geocaches," almost anywhere in the world. Over 3 million caches are hidden globally, often containing a logbook to sign and small items to trade, offering a mix of hiking, puzzle-solving and exploration. LDWF’s caches include collectible magnets that feature landscape scenes of each of the three properties.

Use the following links for LDWF caches: Bogue Chitto WMA cache, White Lake WCA cache and Dewey W. Wills WMA cache.

All visitors to LDWF public lands 18 and older must have either a WMA Access Permit, Senior Hunting/Fishing License, Louisiana Sportsman’s Paradise License, or Lifetime Hunting/Fishing License. Additionally, visitors must check in and out using the self-clearing paper station or LDWF’s Check-In/Check-Out app. See the LDWF WMA Access Permit webpage for more information.
