Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents in conjunction with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office (STPSO) Marine Patrol successfully rescued a stranded boater on July 25 in St. Tammany Parish.

Agents received a call around 5 p.m. about a 70-year-old man that was out crabbing and was overdue near the East Pearl River. Agents were given an approximate area to search and could not contact the man because his cellphone was dead.

The LDWF agents and STPSO deputies searched the area for the man and located him at approximately 8 p.m. in a marshy area near Lake Borgne. The man was stranded due to a malfunction of his vessel.

The team of deputies and agents transported the man to the East Pearl River Boat Launch on Hwy. 90 where he received medical attention from St. Tammany Parish Fire District 1 and Acadian Emergency Medical Services for heat related issues and then released.

LDWF agents involved in the successful search and rescue were Lt. Michael Garrity and Sgt. Brett Nabors.
