Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents cited a subject for an alleged squirrel hunting violation on Oct. 5 in Catahoula Parish.

Agents cited Joshua Cross, 36, of Jonesville, for taking over the limit of squirrels.

Agents received information about a subject harvesting over the limit of squirrels on the Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area (WMA) on Oct. 4. During the subsequent investigation, agents determined that Cross harvested over the limit of squirrels on the WMA.

The daily bag limit for squirrels during this time of year is eight squirrels putting Cross 11 squirrels over the daily limit.

Taking over the limit of squirrels brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail. Cross will also face civil restitution totaling $386 for the replacement value of the squirrels.
