Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited two subjects for alleged deer hunting violations in Ascension Parish on Nov. 2.
Agents cited Joseph Stunsman, 42, of Prairieville, and Misty Guisenheimer, 45, of Sorrento, for hunting deer with illegal methods and hunting deer during illegal hours. Agents also cited Stunsman for taking over the daily limit of deer and failing to tag deer. Agents also cited Guisenheimer for hunting deer without basic and deer hunting licenses and failing to possess deer tags.
Agents setup surveillance in a wooded area near Sorrento after legal shooting hours on Nov. 2. Agents observed Stunsman and Guisenheimer using a spotlight to shine for deer.
Agents then heard two gunshots come from the area where Stunsman was hunting. Agents then made contact with Stunsman and Guisenheimer at their residence where they were in possession of two freshly harvested bucks. During questioning, Stunsman admitted to harvesting the bucks that night with his 7 mm Remington Magnum.
After further investigation, agents learned that Stunsman did not tag the deer and that Guisenheimer was deer hunting without possessing a basic hunting license, deer hunting license and deer tags.
Deer hunting in this part of the state was limited to archery-only season at the time the deer were taken.
Agents seized a four-point buck and a five-point buck and donated them to a local charity.
Hunting deer during illegal hours brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Hunting deer with illegal methods and taking over the daily limit of deer carries a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail for each offense. Hunting deer without basic and deer hunting licenses, failing to tag deer and not possessing deer tags brings up to a $350 fine for each offense.
Stunsman will also be assessed civil restitution totaling $1,600 for the replacement value of the two illegally taken bucks.
Agents participating in this case are Sgt. Randy Lanoux and Senior Agent Hunter Pearson.
