Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents assisted in the capture of eight inmates that escaped from the East Carroll Parish Detention Center on Jan. 29.

LDWF agents along with the Louisiana State Police, East Carroll Parish Sheriff's Office, West Carroll Parish Sheriff's Office, Madison Parish Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the FBI Louisiana Probation and Parole were alerted on the morning of Jan. 29 about the eight escaped inmates and immediately began the search.

LDWF agents responded by deploying trucks, all-terrain vehicles and drones to assist in the search. Agents conducted coordinated sweeps of buildings and rural areas moving south from Lake Providence toward the Madison Parish line.

The search agencies successfully captured all eight inmates by Jan. 30 including three inmates captured in East Carroll Parish, two in Rapides Parish, one in East Carroll Parish, one in Arkansas and another in Mississippi.

During the breakout, the inmates stole two pickup trucks and a school bus all of which have been recovered.

LDWF agents participating in the search included Sgt. Ray Ellerbe, Sgt. Tyler Wheeler, Sgt. Josh Harris, Sgt. Josh Estis, Sgt. Joseph Chandler, Corporal Stephen Lacombe, and Agent Dakota Fleming.
