The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division is investigating a non-fatal boating incident that took place in St. Tammany Parish on Feb. 11.

LDWF agents were notified around 4:30 p.m. about a two-vessel collision in Bayou Bonfouca involving a 16-foot boat with three occupants and a 19-foot boat with two occupants towing a water skier in the water. All three occupants of the 16-foot vessel were injured following the collision including two of them being ejected into the water without wearing personal flotation devices.

The occupants of the 19-foot vessel were able to retrieve the two people in the water and get them in their boat while they awaited for help to arrive.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office was first to the scene, got the three injured people into their vessel, and transported them to ambulances waiting at the dock. The ambulances transported two of the injured boaters to Lakeview Hospital in Mandeville and another to the University Medical Center in New Orleans.

The two occupants and the water skier with the 19-foot vessel did not need medical attention.

The LDWF Enforcement Division will be the leading investigative agency for this recreational boating incident. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation and future charges could be pending.
