Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are investigating a fatal boating that occurred on Nov. 15 in Beauregard Parish.
The body of John F. Lowe, 58, of Deridder, was recovered from Bundick Lake around 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 15.
Agents were alerted at approximately 3 a.m. about a boating incident on Bundick Lake. Agents responded to the scene and learned that four people were in a 14 foot aluminum vessel in Bundick Lake to go duck hunting when they began taking on water and eventually capsizing.
According to the three other occupants in the vessel, all four people were wearing their personal flotation devices (PFD) when they began taking on water. Lowe then took off his PFD in order to take off his waders. All four people went into the water with three of them wearing their PFDs. Lowe entered the water without his PFD and did not resurface.
The three survivors were able to cling to the capsized vessel until they were rescued by a Good Samaritan.
The LDWF Enforcement Division will be the lead investigative agency for this fatal boating incident. Lowe’s body was turned over to the Beauregard Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.
Responding and assisting agencies included the LDWF Enforcement Division, the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Allen Parish Fire Department Dive Team.
