Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred in Iberville Parish on July 11.
The body of Jennifer Harrison, 56, of Gonzales, was recovered from the East Upper Grand River.
Agents were notified about a single vessel incident on the East Upper Grand River near Plaquemine around midnight. Preliminary information suggests that Harrison was a passenger in an 18-foot vessel when the operator struck a log in the water between 11 p.m. and midnight, which ejected both the operator and Harrison into the water.
The operator and Harrison were recovered from the water. The operator was air lifted to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for treatment for his injuries. Harrison’s body was turned over to the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.
The LDWF Enforcement Division will be the lead investigative agency for this fatal boating incident. It is unknown at this time if either the operator or the deceased were wearing personal flotation devices at the time of the incident.
