Bow Hunting 101 class participants observe browse plants.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) conducted a Bow Hunting 101 class at the Woodworth Education Center on Aug. 12, designed to teach beginning bow hunters the basics of the sport.

LDWF Biologist Michael Smilie led the course, which included instruction on seasons, regulations, legal gear, tree stand demonstrations, shot placement, scouting methods and basic hunting tips. The class also learned how to observe browse plants, or plants that have been used as food sources by game animals, during the outdoor portion of the class.

LDWF will hold advanced bow hunting courses in the near future. For more information on bow hunting courses – or other classes – go to louisianaoutdoors.com. For more information on LDWF’s Hunter Education program go to https://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/ and click on Events and Education.
