The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) approved resolutions for two new Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Wildlife Managements Areas (WMA) during its July meeting Tuesday (July 8) in Baton Rouge.

The commission approved resolutions for the Flatwoods Savanna WMA in Allen Parish and the Bogue Chitto WMA in Washington Parish, both of which are now open for non-consumptive activities. The Flatwoods Savanna WMA, which consists of 426 acres, is located between Reeves and LeBlanc in Allen Parish. The Bogue Chitto WMA, made up of 1,642.5 acres, is located south of Franklinton and the Bogue Chitto State Park.

The new WMAs were established in partnership with Trust for Public Land and created in part through funding from the Louisiana Outdoor Fund, a program established during the 2022 legislative session to provide funding for outdoor conservation projects in Louisiana. Project partners for the WMAs include Atira Conservation, EJK Foundation, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation/Restore the Earth Foundation, Partnership for Gulf Coast Land Conservation and The AES Corporation.
