While the ongoing federal government shutdown has resulted in the closure of Fort Polk Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), limited exceptions will allow for the temporary reopening of some areas of Fort Polk-Vernon WMA, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced.

WMA activities will be allowed in the unshaded areas shown on the above maps on Nov. 8-10, Nov. 27, and Nov. 28-30 (see maps). Red shaded areas remain closed and the WMA remains closed for all other dates until further notice.

Daily maps will not be updated on the U.S. Army website while the federal government shutdown continues. However, maps are posted at all Fort Polk-Vernon WMA self-clearing permit kiosks and will be updated with any changes. Additional areas may reopen when federal government operations resume.

Fort Polk North WMA remains closed.

Fort Polk-Vernon WMA is located in central Vernon parish near Leesville. For more information, go to https://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/page/wmas-refuges-and-conservation-areas, or contact Kori Legleu-Buxton at 337-491-2575 or klegleu@wlf.la.gov.
