A portion of Highway 975 through Sherburne Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is scheduled to be closed from Sept. 15, 2025-June 12, 2026, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will be replacing a bridge on the highway necessitating the closure.

Although Sherburne WMA will remain open, access to certain roads and trails may require users to access the WMA from the north via Highway 190 or from the south via I-10.

Sherburne WMA is located in Pointe Coupee, St. Martin and Iberville parishes. Available game species include deer, squirrel, woodcock, rabbit, waterfowl, dove and snipe. There is a small game emphasis area, a youth deer season, a youth deer lottery hunt and a youth waterfowl lottery hunt.

All visitors to Sherburne WMA and all LDWF WMAs must have either a WMA Access Permit, Senior Hunting/Fishing License, Louisiana Sportsman’s Paradise License, or Lifetime Hunting/Fishing License.
