Registration is open for a youth rabbit hunt on Feb. 21, 2026, at Dewey W. Wills Wildlife Management Area (WMA), the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced.
To qualify for the hunt, applicants must be between 10-17 years old the date of the hunt, accompanied by a parent or guardian and be hunter education certified. A maximum of five applicants will be accepted by using a random draw by the Dauzat Hunting Group. Selected participants will be notified by email and phone. Registration closes Jan. 30, 2026.
The event is designed to introduce youth hunters to rabbit hunting with dogs (beagles). Participants will hunt using safe, ethical and effective hunting practices while mentored by LDWF staff and the Dauzat Hunting Group. Youth participants will need a shotgun (.410 or 20 gauge). All participants are required to wear a hunter orange hat and vest.
