Longtime Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) employee Thomas “Tommy” Tuma appointed as the Assistant Secretary of the Office of Wildlife by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, Secretary Tyler Bosworth of LDWF announced.

“I am excited to have Mr. Tuma’s vast experience at LDWF to serve as Assistant Secretary of Wildlife”, said Tyler Bosworth, Secretary of LDWF. “Tommy brings deep operational expertise, strong intergovernmental relationships, and a lifelong commitment to responsible land stewardship, efficient public service, and the expansion of quality outdoor recreation in Louisiana.”

Tommy is a seasoned conservation professional with over 27 years of experience in forest and wildlife habitat management at LDWF. He previously served as Administrator of the Office of Wildlife at LDWF, where he oversaw a portfolio of over 1.6 million acres across Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), refuges, private lands, Farm Bill initiatives, and restoration programs.

A native of Libuse, Louisiana, Tommy earned a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Louisiana Tech University in 1997. He joined LDWF the same year as a Forestry Biologist and quickly advanced through the ranks to Biologist Supervisor, Program Manager, Director, and ultimately Administrator. His work has focused heavily on bottomland hardwood management, forest stewardship, and integrating wildlife habitat priorities into forestry operations on public and private lands. Tommy will work on the Executive Team under Secretary Tyler Bosworth, assisting him in directing Wildlife activities for the agency.
