Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a West Monroe man for allegedly illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on Nov. 5.

Agents were on patrol in Ouachita Parish near D’Arbonne Bayou on the evening of Nov. 2 when they observed an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) without any lights on returning from a wooded area. Agents followed the ATV on foot to a nearby residence.

Agents made contact with the ATV operator, who was identified as Thomas White, 61, and he was in possession of a 25-06 bolt-action rifle. Agents seized the rifle and later learned that White was a convicted felon who was not allowed to be in possession of a firearm.

Agents obtained an arrest warrant for White and this information was communicated to local Sheriff Offices. The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested White for being a fugitive from justice on Nov. 5 and booked him into the Union Parish Jail. LDWF agents then cited White at the jail for illegally possessing a firearm by a convicted felon.

Illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon carries a $1,000 to $5,000 fine and 10 to 20 years of jail.

Agents participating in this case are Sgt. Tyler Wheeler and Corporal Torris White.
