Fulvous Whistling Duck

Description

A gooselike appearance due to the long neck and legs. Tawny brown, darker above than below, Fulvous colored head, breast, and belly with a pale white chin. White-edge side and flank feathers. Black tail with white untertail. V-shaped white rump patch between back and tail. Legs, bill, and feet are blue-gray.

Sound

A raspy, two-note squealing whistle: "kit-tee," "k-weeoo"

Range and Habitat

 Extremely closely associated with rice agriculture, used for forage, nesting, and brood-rearing. Population range has expanded and receded with rice agriculture. Found in all Americas, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Madagascar, India, and Sri Lanka.

Behavior

 Can form extremely large groups, not commonly found with other duck species. Nocturnal feeders, loaf/roost during daylight hours. 

Hunting License Information

 Basic hunting license or equivalent combination license (Sportsman Paradise). Waterfowl, HIP certification (18 years old and older). Federal Duck Stamp (16 years old and older) signed across the face, if hunting WMA then WMA Access Permit.
