Ongoing monitoring by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries of the Calcasieu Lake Public Oyster Area indicates a strong, healthy abundance of oysters on the public reefs, supporting the outlook for a productive commercial market harvest. LDWF’s sampling shows high densities of market-sized oysters and a heavy fall oyster spat recruitment, all of which point to resilient populations capable of sustaining harvest. These conditions suggest that harvesters can anticipate a good supply throughout the 2025-2026 season.

The Calcasieu Lake Public Oyster Area opens solely for sacking of market-size oysters.  The West Cove area opened on Saturday, November 1, 2025, and the east side will open on Thursday, January 1, 2026. These areas are scheduled to close on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
