A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement agent cited two Winnsboro men for alleged deer hunting violations in Richland Parish on Dec. 22.
The agent cited Danny Floyd, 23, and Christopher Floyd, 19, for hunting deer during illegal hours and hunting from a public road. Danny Floyd was also cited for shooting from a public road.
Acting on a tip about night hunting in the area, LDWF Senior Agent Johnny Wilson set up surveillance on McMillan Road about five miles southwest of Mangham around 9 p.m. Around 9:45 Senior Agent Wilson heard a shot from a rifle and went to investigate.
Senior Agent Wilson found the Floyd brothers in their vehicle with a .17 caliber rifle. The Floyd brothers admitted to the agent about shooting at a four point deer but missing. Danny Floyd admitted to shooting the gun.
Hunting deer during illegal hours brings a fine between $900 and $950 and up to 120 days of jail time. Hunting from a public road and shooting from a public road each brings a fine between $100 and $350 and up to 60 days in jail for each offense.
