The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in conjunction with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will open the Larto Lake water control structure for emergency repairs to the Highway 3102 bridge. The bridge is immediately below the control structure, and water flowing over the spillway structure is inhibiting bridge repair work.
DOTD plans to open the gate immediately to increase the rate at which the lake will return to normal pool stage. The lake water level is currently 1 foot above normal.
The drawdown gates will remain open until the water reaches normal pool stage.
LDWF does not anticipate any impacts to the lake habitat or fish populations during this period.
