A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agent cited a Pierre Part man for alleged commercial fishing violations in St. Mary Parish on Nov. 13.
Agent Savannah Lavergne cited Dustin Hebert, 33, for taking commercial fish without a commercial gear license, failing to tag nets, operating a vessel during a license suspension and failing to possess a commercial fishing license.
Agent Lavergne was on patrol when she observed Hebert setting out a gill net. Agent Lavergne made contact with Hebert and found that he did not possess a commercial fishing license or a commercial gear license.
During the inspection, Agent Lavergne learned that Hebert did not have his net tagged and was under license suspension while operating a vessel.
Agent Lavergne seized Hebert’s fish and returned them to the water alive.
Taking commercial fish without a commercial gear license and failing to tag nets brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail for each offense. Operating a vessel while under license suspension carries a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Taking commercial fish without possessing a commercial fishing license carries a $250 to $500 fine.
