Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a subject for alleged deer hunting violations on Dec. 9 in Lafourche Parish.
Agents cited Curtis Verdin, 50, of Lafitte, for taking an illegal deer and failing to tag deer.
Agents received information from a landowner that a person harvested an antlerless deer in an area that was in a bucks-only season. Agents responded to the scene and found the landowner with an untagged antlerless deer, which he claimed someone else had harvested.
During the investigation, agents determined that Verdin harvested the antlerless deer. Agents made contact with Verdin and during questioning, he admitted to harvesting the deer, which did not have any bony material protruding through the skin. A legal buck is considered to be a deer with bony material naturally protruding through the skin.
Taking an illegal deer brings a $500 to $750 fine and 15 to 30 days in jail. Failing to tag deer carries up to a $350 fine.
Verdin will also face civil restitution totaling $400 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.
Agents participating in this case are Sgt. Dylan Egan, Agent Hayden Doyle, Senior Agent Cody Salpietra and Senior Agent Austin Anderson.
