Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a subject for alleged hunting violations in Plaquemines Parish on Dec. 12, 2025.
Agents cited Harley J. Walker Jr., 46, of Raceland, for hunting deer using illegal methods, hunting without a basic hunting license, hunting without a deer-hunting license, failing to tag deer and failing to comply with harvest card requirements.
Agents were on patrol on Dec. 12, 2025 when they responded to a call from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) about a vehicle they stopped with harvested game in the bed of the truck in Des Allemands. Agents responded to the scene and found Walker Jr. in possession of an antlered deer, two rabbits and four wild hogs.
Walker Jr. admitted to harvesting the wild game from Port Sulphur with a .17 caliber rifle and he did not possess any hunting licenses. The smallest caliber rifle legal for hunting deer is a .22 caliber centerfire rifle.
Agents seized the wild game and donated them to a local charity.
Hunting deer using illegal methods brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail. Hunting without a basic hunting license, hunting without a deer-hunting license, failing to tag deer and failing to comply with harvest card requirements carries up to a $350 fine for each offense.
Walker Jr. will also face civil restitution totaling $884 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer and rabbits.
