Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents cited two subjects for alleged migratory game bird hunting violations on Sept. 24 in Orleans Parish.
Agents cited Cameron Bertoniere, 18, of Metairie, and Brennan Collins, 18, of Mississippi, for hunting migratory game birds over a baited area, hunting ducks without a federal duck stamp and violating National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) regulations. Agents also cited Collins for hunting without a non-resident basic hunting license, hunting waterfowl without a non-resident state waterfowl license, hunting migratory game birds with an unplugged gun, and placing bait to take migratory game birds.
Agents were on patrol on the Bayou Sauvage NWR when they observed Bertoniere and Collins hunting waterfowl within a closed area on the refuge. Agents made contact with the subjects and found they were also hunting over a baited area. Agents also found that the subjects did not possess the required licenses to hunt migratory game birds and that Collins was using an unplugged gun.
Hunting migratory game birds over a baited area, placing bait to take migratory game birds, and hunting migratory game birds with an unplugged gun carries a $400 to $950 fine for each offense. Hunting without a non-resident basic hunting license, hunting waterfowl without a non-resident state waterfowl license, hunting migratory game birds without a federal duck stamp, bring up to a $350 fine for each offense. Violating NWR regulations carries up to a $230 fine.
Agents participating in this case are Lt. Thomas Wolf, Sgt. Salvador Mangano, Sgt. Brett Nabors and Agent Jimmie Daniel.
