LDWF Agents Cite Two Subjects for Turtle Excluder Device Violations
Baton Rouge, - Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited two subjects for alleged commercial fishing violations in Terrebonne Parish.
Agents cited Brent Boudreaux, 62, and Thomas Ackman, 57, both of Morgan City, for violating turtle excluder device regulations.
Agents were on patrol on Aug. 17 when they conducted a commercial fishing vessel stop in Oyster Bayou. Agents made contact with Boudreaux and inspected the turtle excluder devices on the skimmer nets.
Agents found that Boudreaux tied the ends of the flaps of the double-cover turtle excluder device in a crisscross method, which is an unapproved modification. Agents seized 155 pounds of shrimp and sold them to the highest bidder.
On Aug. 18, agents patrolled the Gulf of America when they conducted a compliance stop on a commercial fishing vessel. Agents made contact with Ackman and inspected the turtle excluder devices on the skimmer nets.
Agents found that Ackman used plastic cable ties to hold the flaps of the turtle excluder device closed, which is an unapproved modification. Agents seized 18 pounds of shrimp and sold them to the highest bidder.
Violating turtle excluder device regulations brings up to a $350 fine.
Agents participating in the Aug. 17 case are Sgt. Norman Deroche and Agent Courtney Hart. Agents participating in the Aug. 18 case are Lt. Jeremy Foret, Senior Agent Trevor Benoit and Senior Agent Patrick Stansbury.
