Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited two Catahoula Parish residents for alleged commercial fishing violations on June 3.

Agents cited Cecil E. Boothe, 69, of Jonesville, and Harold M. Sones Jr., 57, of Harrisonburg, for taking game fish using illegal methods.  Boothe was also cited for failing to have a commercial hoop net gear license.

LDWF agents located multiple hoop nets used for harvesting crappie in the Ouachita River a few days prior to June 3.  Agents set up surveillance on the nets and on June 3 observed Boothe and Sones Jr. taking crappie from the hoop nets.

Agents seized 14 crappie and donated them to a local charity.

Taking game fish using illegal methods brings up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail.  Failing to have a commercial hoop net gear license carries a $250 to $500 fine and 60 days in jail.
