Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agents cited a subject for an alleged shrimping violation on Aug. 1 in St. Bernard Parish.

Agents cited Julienne G. Creppell lll, 56, of Buras, for using skimmer nets during a closed shrimping season.

Agents on patrol in Lake Fortuna observed Creppel III actively using skimmer nets for shrimp in inside waters that do not open for shrimping until Aug. 11. Agents made contact with Creppel III and found him in possession of 544 pounds of shrimp.

Agents seized the shrimp and sold them at the dock to the highest bidder.

Using skimmer nets during a closed shrimping season brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail.

Agents participating in the case are Corporal Michael Marques, Senior Agent John Stansbury and Senior Agent Logan Pippin.
