The boat launch at the Bussey Brake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) reservoir in Morehouse Parish was recently named in memory of William Kinnison “Kinny” Haddox.  A sign commemorating Mr. Haddox, who passed away in 2024, has been placed adjacent to the launch in accordance with Act 119 of the 2025 Legislative Session.

Mr. Haddox was passionate about Bussey Brake, long before it became property of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF). He launched his boat at this ramp countless times and spent many hours fishing at Bussey Brake while he was employed as communications director at International Paper Company in Bastrop, who previously owned and operated the reservoir. Shortly after International Paper closed its operations in 2010, Mr. Haddox began efforts that led to the donation of the property to LDWF to ensure that it remained available to the sportsmen of Louisiana. Mr. Haddox was a renowned outdoor writer, and served as Past-President of the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association.  He was also outdoor editor for the Monroe News Star newspaper, and most recently, the editor of Louisiana Sportsman magazine. Mr. Haddox will always be remembered for his passionate promotion of the outdoors of northeast Louisiana and his special fondness of Bussey Brake.
