Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents issued a total of 60 citations for migratory game bird hunting violations statewide from Nov. 21 to Nov. 23.

The duck, coot, and merganser seasons opened in the West Zone on Nov. 15, and in the East Zone on Nov. 22.

Agents issued the following citations for migratory game bird violations from November 21-23:

- 18 citations for taking over the limit of ducks;
- 16 citations for hunting ducks without a federal duck stamp;
- Six citations for transporting completely dressed migratory game birds;
- Five citations for violating National Wildlife Refuge regulations;
-Three citations for possessing untagged migratory game birds;
-Two citations for hunting migratory game birds over a baited area or by aid of baiting;
- Two citations for hunting ducks during a closed season;
- Two citations for violating non-toxic shot requirement;
- Two citations for rallying migratory game birds;
- Two citations for hunting migratory game birds with an unplugged gun;
- One citation for placing bait to take migratory game birds;
- One citation for hunting migratory game birds without Harvest Information Program certification.

Taking over the limit of ducks, transporting completely dressed migratory game birds, possessing untagged migratory game birds, hunting ducks during a closed season, violating non-toxic shot requirements, rallying migratory game birds, and hunting migratory game birds with an unplugged gun brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail for each offense. Hunting ducks without a federal duck stamp carries up to a $350 fine.

Violating National Wildlife Refuge regulations, hunting migratory game birds over a baited area, placing bait to hunt migratory game birds, and hunting migratory game birds without a HIP certification are federal charges and are filed with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution in Federal Court.
